75 in. x 75 in.
This quilt is my original adaptation of an antique quilt, ‘Feathers With Flowers,’ that appeared in the Fons and Porter book, “Quilts from the Henry Ford Museum.” The original maker is unknown. I reduced the block size by half and made nine blocks instead of the 4 in the original. My color choices are completely different and the border is my own new design. I added sashing between the blocks and hand embroidery embellishment. The entire quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted and took years to complete because of all the detail work required! I even included trapunto flowers in the black background of the border. The term, “feathering the nest” can have both negative and positive connotations and for this quilt the latter clearly applies! This quilt has been juried into the annual American Quilter’s Society show in Paducah, Kentucky for 2013, my third quilt to receive such a wonderful honor over the years!
